The rules search engines check
Every language version must carry the same full set of tags, including a tag that points to itself, and the URLs must be absolute. A code is a language, optionally followed by a region: en, en-GB, pt-BR. A country alone is not valid, so use ja and not jp, and en-GB and not en-UK. x-default names the page for visitors whose language is not in the list. Use one method per site: tags in the head, the Link header for PDFs and other files, or the sitemap.
